Always and Forever

Fashion is about being up-to-the-minute and in-the-moment, but there are some pieces that transcend the fleeting excitement of those once-beloved acid wash jeans or embroidered ponchos.
Selfridges London is celebrating those iconic fashion pieces in “The Forever Shop.” The U.K. retailer recently transformed its Wonder Room into The Forever Shop, showcasing for sale items like Burberry trenches, Levi’s 501s, Doc Martens, the Chanel 2.55 bag, Converse sneakers and Ray Ban Wayfarers. Alongside these items will be a mélange of beloved books — everything from Lady Chatterley’s Lover and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone to a book about the Bauhaus movement.
The store is curated by Selfridges creative director Alannah Weston, Elle Decoration editor in chief Michelle Ogundehin and designer Paul Smith. Each has chosen a clutch of timeless buys to be stocked within. According to ELLE U.K., the idea is for everyone to “re-think our obsession with fast fashion and embrace the idea of buying pieces that we can wear into our old age and then hand down to our children.”
The Forever Shop will be open through mid-August.
