Trenta Trumps Venti

Even as the diet police rail against all things supersized, Americans can’t seem to get enough of bigger and better.

Starbucks got the message. Responding to customer demand for larger drinks, it has begun selling 31-ounce iced teas and iced coffees in Phoenix and Tampa as part of a limited market test.

Dubbed the Trenta, the new 31-ounce size iced coffee ($3.30) and iced tea ($2.60) drinks best Starbucks’ biggest cup — the Venti — by seven ounces. Still, the company maintains that bigger doesn’t necessarily mean high calorie: Unsweetened Trenta drinks are said to have fewer than five calories, while sweetened versions have fewer than 200 calories.

The big drink option comes as some McDonald’s restaurants offer 32-ounce sweetened iced tea for $1 and the fast-food king experiences success in the morning with its McCafe drinks.
