Transworld Media, a digital advertising company, it has selected Real Digital Media's NEOCAST digital signage solution to manage point-of-purchase programming and advertising for its nationwide convenience store network. Rollout is currently under way, with more than 1,200 stores contracted to implement the network by the end of 2008.

Tommy Bahama has selected to use Escalate Retail’s Blue Martini e-commerce suite to launch the retailer’s new website.

Vermont Teddy Bear has decided to deploy site search and search engine optimization offerings from SLI Systems. Vermont Teddy Bear operates VermontTeddyBear.com, PajamaGram.com and CalyxFlowers.com.

IKI, Lithuania’s second-largest grocery chain, has deployed NCR FastLane self-checkout as a pilot at its store in Vilnius, providing IKI customers with the option to scan, bag and pay for merchandise. NCR RealPartner NEW VISION is responsible for the sale and installation of the solution.

Furniture retailer Grupo Dico has chosen NetLogistiK for distribution center design and RedPrairie’s warehouse management for two new sites in Mexico.

Checkpoint Systems, a manufacturer and marketer of identification, tracking, security and merchandising solutions, will provide RFID portals for 200 Real hypermarkets of METRO Group in Germany in 2008.

Loss Prevention & Security

Accertify, a provider of credit card fraud prevention solutions to online merchants, and ID Insight, the industry leader in assessing and managing the risks associated with addresses, have partnered to help web retailers identify transactions involving identity theft. Accertify will provide ID Insight’s AddressWatch and Safe2Ship as a part of its Interceptas solution to help merchants detect cases of credit card account takeover linked to fraudulent changes of address.

Marketing

Urban clothing retailer Downtown Locker Room has selected Vesta Mobile Solutions to power its mobile marketing program. The retailer operates 65 stores on the East Coast and in the Midwest.

Extreme Pita is using Cellfire at 27 stores across the country. Cellfire automatically delivers savings directly to consumers via their mobile phones, and provides frequently updated discounts specific to their geographic area.

Mergers, Acquisitions & Alliances

Phoenix Check Cashing has completed the purchase of the BioPay Paycheck Secure business from Solidus Networks (Pay By Touch).

Lawson Software has acquired the Product Lifecycle Management software division of San Francisco-based Freeborders. Freeborders will retain its existing technology outsourcing services, which are not included in Lawson’s acquisition.

Wincor Nixdorf has formed a strategic partnership with FedEx Global Supply Chain Services. Wincor Nixdorf will maintain parts inventories at select FedEx Kinko’s locations, so that once a service need is identified, a service technician contacts the closest FedEx Kinko’s location, and the needed part can either be picked up or sent via messenger, minimizing down time.

Capgemini, a provider of consulting, technology and outsourcing services, and Enabler Wipro, an IT and business services company, have launched a multi-year consulting and systems integration project with grocery retailer Ahold. The companies will drive Ahold USA’s deployment of Oracle Retail applications, and implement strategies designed to differentiate Ahold brands within the U.S. market.

Walgreens has implemented the Agentrics Demand Signal Management solution, powered by Retail Solutions, as the platform for its new POS data-sharing program for improved collaborative planning, promotional execution and in-store sales performance.

ACI Worldwide, a provider of software for electronic payment systems, has appointed J. Ronald Totaro as senior vice president in the office of the COO.

ForeSee Results, a provider of online customer satisfaction measurement and management, has appointed Jeff Blackman as its CFO.

Mercado Software, an e-commerce solution provider, has hired Michael Klein as director of worldwide merchandising consulting.

U.K.-based Torex Retail Holdings, a provider of software and solutions to the extended retail marketplace, has signed Paul Brocklehurst as global vice president for purchasing.

Lori Schafer, executive advisor to SAS Institute’s Global Retail Practice, has joined the board of directors of TradeStone Software.

Vector Security has named Rex K. Gillette to the position of director of North American Sales at its National Accounts Division. Richard “Kip” Stewart assumes the newly created position of Key North American Accounts manager.

Andy Maag has been appointed vice president of engineering at Bazaarvoice, a provider of outsourced technology, services, analytics and social commerce applications for online retailers.
