Welcome to the latest STORES LPinformation.

Charlotte Russe and SUPERVALU have created their own databases for tracking and recording internal ORC incidents. Both companies supplement their efforts by subscribing to LERPnet, which enables them to both repel retail criminals and obtain the evidence that would help capture and convict them.

In the process of fulfilling the PCI Security Standards Council requirement for encrypting the numbers in payment card data, salon chain Regis went a step further, aiming for a higher level of security by encrypting other types of data.

Linked with the Law
LERPnet helps retailers track, thwart ORC activity
LERPnet (Law Enforcement Retail Partnership Network), a national database for reporting major retail crimes and serious incidents, connects a wide variety of corporate LP teams with one another and with law enforcement agencies. This allows participants to monitor ORC activity and patterns from store to store, chain to chain and state to state. As a result, what may appear to be disparate incidents are suddenly identifiable as related parts of a broader criminal enterprise.

SaaS reporting solution allows HMV to combat fraudulent POS transactions
London-based entertainment chain HMV is proud of its commitment to being an innovative user of technology, including loss prevention solutions, but felt it struggled with its homegrown exception reporting solution. This point only became clearer as the chain made the transition from paper gift certificates to electronic gift cards, which opened a Pandora’s Box for dishonesty – among both associates and shoppers.   read more
Improved Visibility
Deposit tracking system eliminates blind spots
For retailers that still deal with a lot of cash, a new product aims to reduce the unwanted “carry.” Sargent and Greenleaf’s Trak*iT intelligent safe locking system combines RFID technology with web-based, real-time information, meaning retailers can now track deposits from the POS register into the safe, as well as from the safe to the bank.   read more

All Cost Cutting is Not Equal
Given the current state of the economy, boosting profitability by trimming costs is far easier to achieve than increasing sales. The amount of attention afforded to holding a line (or even boosting) profits by cutting costs isn’t surprising, but it can lead to some simplistic thinking. The fact is, not all cost-cutting actions deliver the targeted result of sustainable increased profitability, particularly when it impacts loss prevention/security departments. read more
