It's interesting to see the statistics behind the increase in men's shopping tendencies over the past ten years. Personally, I've noticed myself shopping a bit more in previous years, but I'm not sure if that's because my wardrobe was so behind the curve or that I have more disposable income. I think there is a conscious effort to target men and do so by portraying men in a positive light. One that embraces their positive attributes and focuses on them as sovereign entities and not part of a familial unit(husband, father, son).

I know that if I'm out shopping for suits or boardshorts, I prefer to think I'm purchasing these garments as a reflection of my own self desire not that which society or my wife dictates. Of course those influences have weight, it's just that I don't want to feel like I'm being swayed when shopping.

I'm guessing in a few years we will be talking about teenage girls or babies as the group retailers are targeting more fervently and men's fashion won't be as hot of a commodity. But right now, men seem to embrace the retailers current fixation on providing them with fashion options.
