Among the steps that retailers and mall
operators have taken to reduce the likelihood of
shooting incidents is training store employees
to recognize suspicious behavior.
Such behavior could include one or more of the
following:
• Someone wearing bulky clothing, particularly
on a warm day.
• Someone who parks for an unusual length of
time in or near the parking lot.
• Someone who inquires about an employee’s
nationality.
• Someone who seems agitated or raises his or
her voice.
• Someone who makes inflammatory or derogatory
remarks.
• Someone who verbally or physically threatens
employees or customers.
