The application can also be used to apply for federal Work Opportunity Tax Credits, which can yield up to $9,000 per qualified worker. “It’s a massive opportunity in restaurants and retail where you have a high incidence of individuals who would qualify,” Helppie says. “Being able to capture the data up front vastly simplifies the process of receiving these credits. For companies that are not doing any tax credits at all, it’s found money.”

JobApp processes the tax credits and takes a percentage of what’s recovered on a contingency basis. The function also can be used to apply for FICA tax tip credits and any applicable state or local tax credits.

The company also offers background checks as an add-on service. One JobApp client found that a quarter of the employees hired pending background checks had some level of criminal background. “It was an eye-opening experience for them,” Helppie says. “These were not [mere] applicants, but people they wanted to hire.”

JobApp Network was developed specifically for multi-unit operations that don’t have a dedicated recruiting professional in each location. “Managers will regularly tell us that they’re spending 80 percent less time on hiring, and the people they’re hiring are better and staying longer,” Helppie says. “They’re spending less time with unqualified applicants.”

That has been the experience at Church’s Chicken, Smith says. “The new process has allowed the managers to focus their time on managing the business and less on the administrative work of scouring applications to determine who should be interviewed.”
