Complete merchandise visibility
“We have just complete visibility on the styles that are selling,” Thom says. “We can see everything that’s going on by location. We do a lot of movement of goods in our arena. We have the ability [to] get them in the right places.”

Perlman describes retailing as “low-lying fruit” for sports franchises that offers opportunities well beyond arena shops and kiosks. With Connected Retailer’s mobile POS capabilities, the Cavaliers will be able to market directly to their ticket holders and fans at their seats or in their skyboxes.

“We look at sports franchises and arenas and stadiums as a tremendous opportunity because
you have a captive audience,” he says. “They may see their team store as a 2,000-sq.-ft. shop, but we see their 50,000-seat stadium as a very big store.”

Thom also sees opportunity in mobile POS, where retailing salespeople can take credit card orders over hand-held devices and have merchandise delivered directly to buyers. He expects the Cavaliers to exploit that component as it gets its footing with the new platform, which launched last October.
